Join us to hear how residents of The Boston Home are participating in the ground-breaking CASA-MS study and what it could mean for the future of multiple sclerosis.

Dr. Robert Zivadinov SUNY Distinguished Professor of Neurology, Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at UB and Director of BNAC

Please join us for a special presentation on Wednesday, October 23, 2024 at The Boston Home to learn how study participants from Boston and Buffalo are helping researchers leverage emerging neuroimaging technology to understand MS better than ever before.

Motivated by Mary Jo
Mary Jo Montani was one of a large and loving family of ten siblings. Like Mary Jo, two of her siblings shared a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis (MS). During the twelve years that Mary Jo lived at The Boston Home (TBH), the Montani family became part of The Boston Home family. After Mary Jo passed in 2019, her brother Larry Montani was motivated to continue his connection with The Boston Home in a way that could lead to meaningful change. Larry, who is Chair of the University at Buffalo Neuroimaging Analysis Center (BNAC) Advisory Council, brought BNAC researchers and members of the Advisory Council to visit TBH. The BNAC researchers recognized the research possibilities of partnering with TBH's unique community. The visit was the catalyst for the CASA-MS study, in which residents of TBH have been demographically matched with a study participant who is living with a less disabling form of MS. More than two dozen residents of TBH have participated in the study in hopes that they can help change future outcomes for people diagnosed with MS. With Phase I of CASA-MS now complete, the findings are already changing our understanding of how advanced multiple sclerosis is characterized and plans for Phase II are taking shape.
