The Boston Home medical staff includes specialists in the care of progressive neurological diseases, primarily Multiple Sclerosis.

Dr. Steven E. Carr, Medical Director

Dr. Carr received his BA in Mathematics and Pre-Medicine at College of the Holy Cross in Worcester. He received his MD from Loyola University’s Stritch School of Medicine in Maywood, Illinois. Dr. Carr did his residency training at Carney Hospital in Dorchester, where he continues to be a staff member. He also servses as a staff member at Milton Medical Center. He has served as the Medical Director of Riverside Nursing Home in Mattapan and as Health Clinic Director at Curry College in Milton. Dr. Carr maintains a private practice in Internal Medicine in Hyde Park.

Dr. Carr is Board Certified in Internal Medicine. He is a member of the American College of Physicians and the Massachusetts Medical Society. He was named Medical Director of The Boston Home on January 1, 2012.

Stephen F. Koelbel, MD, Physiatrist, Medical Director of the Spasticity Management Program at Braintree Rehabilitation Hospital and Consultant, The Boston Home

Dr. Koelbel has been the Medical Director of the Spasticity Management Program at Braintree Rehabilitation Hospital since 1999 – an interdisciplinary clinic for the evaluation and treatment of spasticity, including spasticity from Multiple Sclerosis. He has extensive experience with medical management of spasticity including use of oral medications, botulinum toxin intramuscular neurolysis, phenol neurolysis, and intrathecal baclofen . He is the site principle investigator for multiple multicenter research studies. He serves as Consulting Physiatrist.
